The author is said to be Karasuma Mitsuhiro (1579-1638), but the more likely author is Isoda Doya (1585-1634), a doctor born in Matsusaka, Ise, and living in Edo. Takesai, a poor doctor from Kyoto in Yamashiro Province, lost hope in the capital and set out on a pilgrimage around the country with his servant, Niminosuke.
