Kamakura Great Buddha
A seated statue of Amida Nyorai at Kotoku-in Temple in Hase, Kamakura. Also known as the Great Buddha of Hase, it is highly acclaimed alongside the Great Buddha of Nara. It is made of copper and is 11.5m tall. A wooden Great Buddha was made around 1238-1247 at the request of the monk Jokou, and casting of the current Great Buddha began in 1252. It is a representative work that shows the style of the Kamakura region at the time, based on the Unkei style with the addition of Song Dynasty art style.

鎌倉市長谷(はせ)の高徳院にある阿弥陀如来座像。〈長谷の大仏〉とも呼ばれ,奈良大仏と並び称される。銅造で高さ11.5m。1238年―1247年ごろに僧浄光の発願により木造の大仏が造られ,1252年に現存の大仏の鋳造が始められたらしい。運慶様式を基本に宋代美術様式を加味した,当時の鎌倉地方様式を示す代表作。
