A local governing body of the Kenmu government. Also known as the Kozuke Imperial Prince's Office. It was founded in 1333 when Ashikaga Tadayoshi, accompanied by his son, Prince Nariyoshi, travelled to Kamakura by order of Emperor Godaigo. It governed 10 provinces in the Kanto region. It was essentially led by the Ashikaga clan, and became a base for the samurai forces centered around the clan. In 1335, Ashikaga Takauji defected from the Kenmu government and based himself in Kamakura, and it disappeared. In terms of system, it was connected to the Kamakura government of the Muromachi shogunate. → Kenmu Restoration Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
