... Half-man, half-fish gods existed in mythology. First, the Babylonians worshiped a sea god named Oannes, and a sculpture of a man with the lower body of a fish remains (8th century BC, excavated at Khorsabad). This was further inherited by the Philistines and became the chief god Dagan, half-man, half-fish.
