Oasis Nation - Oasis Country

...In other words, it seems likely that several oasis fortified cities with strong walls and large irrigation networks had already been established in the oasis regions between the 10th and 7th centuries BC. After that, oasis confederations (oasis states, such as the Sogdian oasis confederation during the Arab invasion) were often formed in this region, in which one powerful oasis city controlled a few surrounding cities. However, these confederations (with the exception of the Kushan, Samanid and Timurid dynasties) did not have the power to annex the other confederations and form a unified state covering the entire oasis region, and were always politically and militarily weak.
