Entrada - Entrada

...the term refers to the public and private expeditions and their activities organized and dispatched during the Brazilian colonial period (16th and 17th centuries) for the purpose of capturing inland Indians and prospecting for precious metals and gems. They were also called entradas, and the participants were called bandeirantes. They departed from major coastal cities at the time, but the ones from São Paulo were particularly famous, and to this day the people of São Paulo admire the bandeirante spirit.
