A beautician who opened the first Western-style beauty salon. Born in Toi-go, Ashigara-gun, Sagami Province (Yugawara-cho, Kanagawa Prefecture). Maiden name Tomioka Hatsu. Married Endo Yoshinosuke and ran an inn. In 1905 (Meiji 38), she introduced American-style facial beauty techniques and opened a salon, where she became the first Endo Hatsuko. She subsequently expanded her business to all areas of beauty, and served as the first president of the Tokyo Women's Beauty Association. 洋式美容室第1号を開いた美容家。相模国足柄郡土肥郷(神奈川県湯河原町)に生まれる。旧姓富岡ハツ。遠藤芳之助と結婚し,旅館業を営む。明治38(1905)年,アメリカ式美顔術を導入して店を開き,初代遠藤波津子となる。以後美容全般にわたり事業を拡大,東京婦人美容協会初代会長を務めた。『化粧と着付』などの著書がある。<参考文献>遠藤波津子『遠藤波津子の世界婚礼衣裳』
