In the general election held in October 1982, the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (officially known as the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party, also known as the Socialist Party) became the largest party, and a new government was formed with its Secretary-General, Felipe González Márquez (1942- ), as its leader.
