Alpa

Japanese: アルパ
Alpa
A harp used throughout Latin America. It originated from the Spanish harp of the 16th and 17th centuries. It still retains its distinctive features today, lacking pedals. It is generally made of wood and is small enough to be carried around. Depending on the region, it has 20 to 30 strings (gut, metal, or nylon). It is used for solo performances and to accompany singing or other instruments. The most famous harps are from Paraguay. They are also commonly used in Venezuela, Peru, Mexico, and other countries.
