In Kyushu, the Nagasaki route from Kokura to Nagasaki, which connected to the Sanyo Road, was considered important, but if you head south from Yamaga on the way, you can also go to Kagoshima via Kurume, Yanagawa, and Kumamoto. The Hosokawa clan of Kumamoto often passed through the foot of Mt. Aso on their way to Edo and the Seto Inland Sea from Tsurusaki in Bungo, and the Shimazu clan also often used the sea route from Kyodomari at the mouth of the Sendai River.
