Polished stone axes vary depending on the period and region; in the early period, there were locally polished stone axes made by polishing the ends of small pebbles, in the middle period, there were pestle-shaped stone axes (also called Enshu-style stone axes) with rod-shaped bodies, and in the later period, there were those called fixed-angle style axes that were tightly polished. Small polished stone axes also became more common.
