Enshu rhododendron - Enshu rhododendron

An evergreen shrub of the Ericaceae family (APG classification: Ericaceae). Also called Narrow-leaved Rhododendron. The leaves are alternate, narrowly oblanceolate, 8-18 cm long, thin, leathery, and densely covered with long, brown soft hairs on the underside. In May, the plant produces crimson-purple, funnel-shaped flowers with 5 lobes, 3-4 cm across. It is found in mountainous areas such as Mt. Akiha (Shizuoka Prefecture) and Mt. Horaiji (Aichi Prefecture) in the southern part of the Chubu region of Honshu.

ツツジ科（APG分類：ツツジ科）の常緑低木。ホソバシャクナゲともいう。葉は互生し、狭倒披針(きょうとうひしん)形、長さ8～18センチメートルで細く、革質で裏面に褐色の長い軟毛を密生する。5月に紅紫色、漏斗(ろうと)状で5裂した径3～4センチメートルの花が開く。本州中部地方南部の秋葉山(あきはさん)（静岡県）、鳳来寺山(ほうらいじさん)（愛知県）などの山地に分布する。
