An abandoned temple in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City. Built by Emperor Gosanjo in 1070 (Enkyu 2), it was originally called Enmyoji, but changed its name to Ensuji the following year. Along with the Hosshoji Daijo-e, the Hokke-e and Saisho-e, which were known as the three Tendai assemblies, were held here, and it flourished as one of the Shien-ji temples along with Engyo-ji, Enjo-ji, and Enyuji.
