The percentage of food expenses in a household's total consumption expenditure. The fact that this ratio generally increases with lower income levels is called Engel's Law, and was discovered by German statistician CLE Engel (1821-1896). He discussed it in his 1857 paper "Production and Consumption in the Kingdom of Saxony" and other publications. This coefficient is considered one measure of living standards, but is not necessarily useful for comparing social groups with different social security systems, price systems, or lifestyles. → Schwabe's Law → Related topics Household finances | Minimum living expenses Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
