The stem is cylindrical, green, fleshy, bifurcated, and sometimes trifurcated. The nodes are swollen and distinct, with internodes about 5-10 cm long, and the leaves grow opposite each other. The leaves are leathery, slightly fleshy, elliptical-oblanceolate to oblanceolate, about 3-5 cm long, dark green, and glossy all over. Dioecious. Flowers appear in late spring between the opposite leaves at the apex, and are pedunculated. There are 3-5 male flowers and 1-3 female flowers. …
