Republic of Ingushetia (English spelling)
A republic in the North Caucasus of the Russian Federation. Its capital is Nazran'. The region's name is Ingushetiya. Under the Soviet Union, it was part of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Republic within the Russian Republic. Chechen and Ingush languages ​​are from the Nakh group of Caucasian languages, and the religion is Islamic. They fought hard against annexation by Russia, and fought in the Caucasian War of 1817-64 (see the entry on Caucasus). In 1922, they formed the Chechen Autonomous Oblast, and in 1924, the Ingushetia Autonomous Oblast, and in 1934, the two autonomous oblasts were united, and in 1936, they were promoted to an autonomous republic.
