A former town in Ayauta County, central Kagawa Prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Aya River, and the central and southern parts are mountainous. In addition to producing rice, vegetables, and fruit, the town also produces sake, sewing, and food. The Nagara Dam is located upstream of the Aya River and is used for flood prevention and irrigation. In March 2006, Ayanominami Town in Ayauta County was merged with Ayauta County to become Ayakawa Town in Ayauta County. Area: 71.20 km2 . Population: 6,984 (2003). 香川県中部,綾歌(あやうた)郡の旧町。綾川上流域を占め,中・南部は山地。米,蔬菜,果樹を産するほか,酒造,縫製,食品などの工業も行う。綾川上流に洪水防止と灌漑(かんがい)用の長柄(ながら)ダムがある。2006年3月,綾歌郡綾南町が合併し町制,綾歌郡綾川町となる。71.20km2。6984人(2003)。
