Carpenter-Killam Agreement

Japanese: カーペンター=キラム協定 - カーペンターキラムきょうてい

A memorandum of understanding signed on March 22, 1915 between Jamal-ul Kiram II, the 27th Sultan of the Sultanate of Sulu, and Frank W. Carpenter, the U.S. governor of Mindanao-Sulu Province of the Philippine Archipelago. In this agreement, Kiram II renounced all secular power and retained only religious authority. As a result, the Sulu Sultanate, which had existed for nearly five centuries since the mid-15th century, was dissolved.

1915年3月22日にスールー王国の第27代スルタン，ハマルル･キラム2世Jamal‐ul Kiram IIとアメリカのフィリピン群島政府ミンダナオ･スールー管区長カーペンターFrank W.Carpenterとの間で結ばれた覚書協定。キラム2世はこの協定でいっさいの世俗の権力を放棄し，宗教的権威のみを保持することになった。その結果，15世紀中ごろから5世紀近く続いたスールーのスルタン制度，すなわちスールー王国は解体した。
