Soviet philosopher and social scientist. He joined the revolutionary movement at a young age and became a member of the Bolsheviks in 1904. After the October Revolution, he served as deputy director of the Central Archives, a member of the Lenin Institute's executive committee, and director of the Marx-Engels-Lenin Institute.
