...The clue to understanding the evolution of tiles over the past 2,000 years is the patterns on the tile-attaching pieces that were attached to the ends of round tiles. The tile-attaching pieces started out as semicircular pieces made to cover the ends of round tiles, which then evolved into circular tile-attaching pieces. It is believed that circular tile-attaching pieces began to be made during the Qin and Han dynasties.
