...Notable examples include the solution of the aforementioned linear equation (Kuttaka) and the solution of quadratic equations of the form Nx ² + 1 = y ^2. The latter was almost solved by Brahmagupta, but the complete solution (called the method of circles) did not appear until the writings of Jayadeva (around the 11th century). In addition, the theory of permutations and combinations also developed independently, coupled with the Indian habit of enumeration.
