In the 8th year of King Gongmin's reign (1359), he became the Seogyeong's prefectural governor, defeated the invading Red Turbans, and became a first-class meritorious official. In the 18th year of the same year, he was promoted to Left Attendant. When King Gongmin was assassinated in the 23rd year of the same year, he supported Shin Goong and took control of the government. He maintained a pro-Won policy and expelled his subordinates who advocated a pro-Ming policy. After that, the tyranny of Yi Inim's faction became so severe that in the 14th year of the same year (88), he was exiled to Gyeongsanbu (North Gyeongsang Province) by Choi Young, Yi Seong-gye, and others.
