…He grew up as a member of the sect of the Pharisees, who were zealous for the law, and persecuted Christians who, despite being Jews, neglected the law. However, one day he suddenly experienced a conversion, and thereafter he was active as a Christian evangelist, especially spreading the gospel to Gentiles. He initially worked as a missionary in the Syrian church of Antioch, and as a representative of the Antioch church at the so-called Council of Jerusalem (probably in 48), he opposed the movement to impose the obligation on Gentile believers to obey the law. Later, due to conflicts with other Jews within the Antioch church over the issue of the law, he became independent and spread the gospel mainly along the Aegean coast (these journeys are usually called the first, second, and third missionary journeys, following the account in the Book of Acts), and established churches in various places. …
