Kaiping Coal Mine

…At the end of the Qing Dynasty, it was a rural town called Tangshan Town, located on the border between Fengrun and Luan counties, but the existence of coal was already known during the Ming Dynasty. However, Tangshan did not become a coal mining city until 1878 (the 4th year of the Guangxu era), when Li Hongzhang opened the Kaiping Coal Mine, which was a government-supervised commercial coal mine here. In 1900, the coal mine was placed under the control of British capital, and in 1912, the Luanzhou Coal Mine was merged with it to become the Kailuan Coal Mine. After liberation, factories for steel, machinery, ceramics, textiles, etc., as well as thermal power plants, were built, and Tangshan grew into a modern industrial city. …
