Basic Law of Jerusalem

...The fire at Al-Qasr Mosque, set by an Australian in 1969, shocked the Muslim world and became the catalyst for the founding of the Islamic Conference. Peace negotiations between Egypt and Israel, which began in 1977 when Egyptian President Sadat visited Jerusalem and participated in prayer at Al-Qasr Mosque, led to the passage of the Basic Law on Jerusalem by the Israeli Knesset in 1980 (declaring the united city the permanent capital of Israel). In response, Saudi Arabia made an eight-point proposal in 1981, which included a demand to make Jerusalem the capital of Palestine, further deepening the confusion, and the Jerusalem issue remains the most difficult task that impedes the resolution of the Palestinian problem. The "sacred" character and "peaceful" power implied by the history of Jerusalem can be said to still symbolize the crisis of humanity and also its way out.
