Han Xizai's Night Banquet (English: Han Xizai's Night Banquet)

Japanese: 韓熙載夜宴図 - かんきさいやえんず（英語表記）Hán Xī zài yè yàn tú

This work takes as its theme an evening banquet held by Han Xizai (902-970), a high-ranking official in the Southern Tang Dynasty during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period in China. Han Xizai, whose courtesy name was Shuyan, was from Beihai, Weizhou (Wei County, Shandong Province). He became a Jinshi in the Later Tang Dynasty, but when his father was executed by Emperor Mingzong, he fled to Southern Tang and served the Three Emperors, eventually graduating as a Zhongshu Shilang during the reign of the Later Emperor Li Yu. Li Yu criticized Han Xizai for being surrounded by disciples and concubines and not shying away from singing and dancing, and demoted him at one point, but when he discovered his true intentions, he was forced to reappoint him.

中国，五代十国時代の南唐の大官韓熙載(902‐970)の夜宴を主題とする作品。韓熙載は字を叔言，濰州（いしゆう）北海(山東省濰県)の人。後唐で進士となったが，父が明宗に誅殺されたため，南唐にのがれて三主に仕え，後主李煜（りいく）のとき中書侍郎にいたって卒した。李煜は，門弟，妾妓に囲まれ歌舞に身をやつしてはばからない韓熙載を責めいったん左遷したものの，その底にある意図を知って再び起用せざるをえない状況に追いこまれていた。
