A Tungusic language. Also called Lamut. The language of the Even ethnic minority group (who call themselves Even), who call themselves Even. It is distributed from the right bank of the Lena River in Siberia eastward, through the Yana, Indigirka and Kolyma river regions, the northern coast of the Sea of Okhotsk, central Kamchatka and the Anadyr region further east. In 1989, the Even population was 17,000, of which about 43.9% still speak Even as their mother tongue. The Arman dialect on the northern coast of the Sea of Okhotsk is known as a unique dialect. Of the Tungusic languages, Even is closely related to the Evenki language to the west.
