FCC (Chemical)

...Sun Oil, which expanded Udry's research, built a fixed-bed industrial plant in 1936, and Soconi Vacuum Oil built a moving-bed industrial plant in 1943. However, fluidized-bed catalytic cracking (FCC) plants, jointly developed by American oil companies in the wake of World War II, are now widely used. These cracking plants use catalyst particles several tens of micrometers in diameter, and cracking reactions take place in a fluidized reactor at around normal pressure and 500°C.
