A former town in Yoshiki District, central Yamaguchi Prefecture. The main settlement was originally a river port on the Fushino River, a strategic point connecting the Yamaguchi Basin and the Suo Nada Sea. It is a key transportation location where the Sanyo Main Line, Shinkansen, Yamaguchi Line, and Ube Line branch off. A large area of reclaimed land has been built since the early modern period. The Yamaguchi Prefectural Distribution Center is located here. In October 2005, it was incorporated into Yamaguchi City along with Tokuji Town in Sawa District, Akiho Town in Yoshiki District, and Achisu Town in Yoshiki District. 33.40 km2 . 山口県中部,吉敷(よしき)郡の旧町。主集落はもと椹野(ふしの)川の河港,山口盆地と周防(すおう)灘を結ぶ要衝であった。山陽本線,新幹線,山口線,宇部線が分岐する交通要地。近世以降の干拓地が広い。山口県流通センターがある。2005年10月佐波郡徳地町,吉敷郡秋穂町,阿知須町と山口市へ編入。33.40km2。2万2524人(2003)。
