An American female poet. She grew up in a Puritan household, and after her love affair with a married and childless pastor ended in heartbreak, she continued to write many short poems in solitude. These were collected posthumously into a three-volume Collected Poems (1955), and in the 20th century she was highly regarded as a pioneer of Imagism.
