A historical place name of part of present-day Taishi-cho, Minamikawachi-gun, Osaka Prefecture. Also written as Shinaga. In ancient times, the name Shinaga-go appeared, and it belonged to Ishikawa-gun, Kawachi Province. The tombs of four emperors, Bidatsu, Yomei, Suiko, and Kōtoku, as well as Prince Shotoku's Isonaga Tomb (Eifuku-ji Temple), were established in this area. Shinaga Shrine, which appears in the Engishiki, was also enshrined here. The area of the village is unclear, but it is believed to be the area behind the western ridge of Taima-ji Temple. In 1896, it was incorporated into Minamikawachi-gun, Osaka Prefecture, and in 1956 it merged with Yamada Village to become Taishi-cho. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
