Japanese: 羮 - あつもの
Hot pot - hot food

...General term for soup dishes in Japan. Broadly classified, there are miso-based and clear-based. In the olden days, it was called "atsumono" meaning hot food, and the character "kan" was used. After the Heian period, in addition to soup and soup, other terms such as jukujiru, atsujiru, and hiyashiru (cold soup) appeared, and from the Muromachi period, the term "suimono" also appeared. In modern times, the distinction between soup and soup is interpreted differently by different people, and they are practically used as synonyms. However, in the early modern period, as Ise Sadatake said, "Soup is soup served with rice" (Sadatake Miscellany), soup referred to something served with other vegetables when eating rice.
