A forgery attributed to Diktys of Crete. It has come down to us today as a Latin translation in six volumes by Lucius Septimius (4th century?). According to the letter and preface at the beginning of the book, the book was originally a war record (ephemeris means "journal") written by Diktys, a servant of King Idomeneus of Crete, a Greek general who participated in the Trojan War, at the command of his master. It had been buried underground at Knossos for a long time and was discovered by chance in the 13th year of the reign of Emperor Nero (66 AD). At that time, the original Phoenician characters were first changed to Greek characters, and then Septimius changed it to Latin. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
