The old names of the Samoyed peoples, Samoed-yurak, Eniseiskii Samoed, Samoed-tavgiits, and Ostyako-Samoed, were changed to Nenets, Enets, Ganasan (all meaning "people"), and Serikup (meaning "people of the land"), respectively.
