...Negidar is a self-proclaimed name meaning "people of the shore." They are also called El'kan beienin, so they are also called the Elkanbeiye people, but their ethnic origins can be traced back to the Evenki people. Culturally, they have much in common with other fishing peoples in the region (Ulichi, Orochi, and Nivkhi peoples).
