Eccles, S. - Eccles

…English composer. The Eccles family was known as a musical family, and John E. received musical training from his father, Solomon E. (1618-83), a viola teacher. In his mid-20s, he began working as a composer of theatre music in London. He wrote several pieces for the actress Anne Bracegirdle, which were particularly well received, and he soon became a resident musician for the newly established theatre company Lincoln-in-Fields, releasing a succession of works, including The Love of Mars and Venus and Acis and Galatea.
