Caste (biology) - kaasuto

...The word is generally taken to mean "insecta living in groups," but in fact it is mainly used to refer to ants, termites, and some colonial bees (such as wasps, hornets, honeybees, stingless bees, bumblebees, and some sweat bees), and will be explained in this sense below. The characteristic of these insects is that the group (colony) is maintained by a caste system (it has no relation to the caste system in humans, although there is a superficial similarity). The colony is mainly composed of individuals responsible for reproduction (queen, etc.)
