Wei Zifu

…A native of Pingyang (Linfen County, Shanxi Province), his courtesy name was Zhongqing. He was an illegitimate son of Wei-ma, a concubine of the Marquis of Pingyang, but when his sister Wei Zifu (later Empress Wei) became the favorite of Emperor Wu, he also served in the court and was recognized by the emperor. In 130 B.C. (the 5th year of the Yuan Guang era), he became General of the Chariots and Cavalry, and from then on achieved brilliant military feats by defeating the Xiongnu seven times over the next 11 years. …
