At the end of the Edo period, Yoshimura Torataro, Matsumoto Keido and others formed a radical Sonno Joi faction with the aim of overthrowing the shogunate, mainly consisting of samurai who had escaped from the domains of Tosa, Tottori, Shimabara, Kariya and Kurume. The name Tenchu-gumi was not used at the time of the formation, and some comrades' records state it was Tenchu-gumi. "Tenchu" was the slogan of the organized terrorist attacks carried out by the Sonno Joi radical faction, which occurred one after another in Kyoto at the time. On August 17, 1863, about 50 ronin attacked the Yamato Gojo Magistrate's Office. Later, about 1,000 local samurai from Totsukawa, Yamato, participated. → Totsukawa Incident → Related articles Ikuno Incident | Totsukawa [village] | Nakayama Tadamitsu | Political upheaval of August 18, 1863 Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
