Relatedness

...This is evolution. For an altruistic trait to evolve, the fitness (loss) lost by helping a close relative (or relatives) divided by the increased fitness (benefit) of the close relative must be greater than the relatedness (or the coefficient of kinship). In other words, the reciprocal of the average gene sharing rate between the altruist and the beneficiary. If the loss is C , the benefit is B , and the relatedness is r , then this trait will evolve if Br - C > 0.
