Copper Pot - Dowan

Japanese: 銅鋺 - どうわん

A bronze kanamari (pot). It is a type of Buddhist altar implement and is thought to have been used as a relic container or a Buddhist altar offering vessel. Many were buried in caves or in late Kofun tombs. Those buried in Kofun tombs are mostly distributed east of the Chubu region, accounting for 80% of the total. They are divided into pot-shaped ones and ones with a pedestal. The pot-shaped ones are divided into those with and without a base, and the pedestal ones are divided into those with and without a base. Some have lids and some do not.
