A common name for star-like X-ray sources in the Milky Way. Some emit X-rays with more than 1,000 times the energy emitted by the Sun, and many of these are thought to be close binary systems consisting of a star and an ultra-dense star such as a neutron star or black hole. Plasma emanating from the star and matter (gas) overflowing from the star form a disk (accretion disk) that revolves around the dense star, and gradually falls onto the dense star from the inside. The gravitational energy released at this time raises the temperature of the plasma that makes up the disk to tens to hundreds of millions of degrees, and X-rays are emitted as thermal radiation. 銀河系内にある星状のＸ線源の通称。太陽の放射するエネルギーの1000倍を超えるエネルギーをＸ線として出しているものがあり，その多くは，中性子星，ブラックホール等の超高密度星と恒星からなる近接連星と考えられている。恒星から吹き出すプラズマや恒星からあふれ出た物質（ガス）は高密度星のまわりを回る円盤（降着円盤）を形成，内側から徐々に高密度星に落ちていく。このとき解放された重力エネルギーによって円盤をつくっているプラズマの温度は数千万〜数億度の高温になり，熱放射としてＸ線を放出する。代表的なＸ線星の一つ，はくちょう座X-Iの一方はブラックホールに間違いないとされている。→Ｘ線バースター
