In 1814, she published the birth control movement magazine "The Woman Rebel" and coined the term "birth control." However, at the time, information on contraception was considered obscene, and the Comstock Act prohibited the mailing of obscene literature, so Sanger was accused and fled to Europe, where she spent a year studying the ideas and methods of contraception.
