Japanese: 免疫促進剤 - めんえきそくしんざい

Drugs that promote the body's immune response. Also called immunomodulators. It has been proven in various systems that immune response is impaired at various stages in cancer patients. Due to this immunological background of cancer patients, so-called non-specific immunotherapy is widely used to enhance the patient's immune function and induce immune resistance against the patient's own cancer using immunostimulants. Immunostimulants are used in cases where cancer cells are removed as much as possible by chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, etc., and remaining cancer cells are eliminated by immunological mechanisms, or in combination with active immunotherapy, which uses tumor-specific antigens to enhance immunity.

生体の免疫反応を促進する薬剤。免疫調節剤ともいう。　癌患者では，種々の段階で免疫応答能が障害されていることが種々の系で証明されている。癌患者のこのような免疫学的背景から，治療に免疫促進剤などを用いて患者の免疫能を増強し，自己癌に対する免疫抵抗性をも誘導しようとするいわゆる非特異的免疫療法が広く行われている。免疫促進剤は，できるだけ化学療法や放射線，手術などによって癌細胞を除去し，なお残存する癌細胞を免疫学的機序によって排除する場合や，あるいは腫瘍特異抗原を用いて強化免疫を行う能動的免疫療法と組み合わせて用いられる。
