An old town in Yamagata County, in the mid-west of Hiroshima Prefecture. Most of the area is mountainous, with the main settlements of Yae and Mibu located near where the Eno River, Shijiwara River, and Kanmuri River join. The Chugoku Expressway passes through the town, and the Hamada Expressway branches off here. In addition to rice, tobacco and lettuce and other vegetables are cultivated. Folk performing arts such as the Hanagasa Dance and Hanataue (flower rice planting) have been passed down since then. In February 2005, it merged with Geihoku Town, Oasa Town, and Toyohira Town in Yamagata County to become Kitahiroshima Town. Area: 171.07 km2 . 広島県中西部,山県(やまがた)郡の旧町。大部分が山地で,可愛(えの)川に志路原(しじわら)川,冠川が合流する付近に主集落の八重と壬生(みぶ)がある。中国自動車道が通じ,浜田自動車道が分岐する。米作のほかタバコ栽培,レタスなどの野菜栽培を行う。花笠踊,花田植など民俗芸能が伝わる。2005年2月山県郡芸北町,大朝町,豊平町と合併し町制,北広島町となる。171.07km2。1万557人(2003)。
