Qansuh (English spelling)

The Arab Republic of Yemen (Arabic: Yaman) is a state located in the southwestern tip of the Arabian Peninsula. It was divided into the Arab Republic of Yemen (North Yemen) and the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (South Yemen), but in May 1990, the two nations were unified to form the Republic of Yemen.

Yemen and Hadramaut were the original habitat of the South Arabian people, where they established kingdoms such as Saba, Hadramaut, Qataban, Main, and Himyar. Collectively, these are called the ancient South Arabian kingdoms, but there is no consensus on their absolute dates. The oldest, the Saba kingdom, is said to have been founded before the end of the 8th century BCE, when the name of its king appears on an Assyrian inscription, but there are other theories.
