Thirty Years of Betrayal - Excerpts from the Hearings of the Committee on Un-American Activities 1938-68

...With the cooperation of informants, a blacklist was created, and according to the 1953 annual report of the Committee on Un-American Activities, 324 filmmakers were expelled from the film industry. Many books have been written about the Hollywood Ten and the Hollywood Red Scare, including Thirty Years of Betrayal: Selected Hearings of the Committee on Un-American Activities, 1938-68 (1971), edited by Eric Bentley, which includes the original testimony records. And as seen in Larry Sepler and Steven Englund's Hollywood Inquisition: The Politics of the Film Industry, 1930-66 (1980) and Nancy Lynn Schwartz's The Hollywood Writers' Struggle (1982), the investigation and pursuit of the scars left on Hollywood by the Committee on Un-American Activities, a stain on American history, continues.
