Sakra-Devānam Indra (English spelling)

...Indra, a representative god in ancient Indian mythology, was adopted into Buddhism. In Sanskrit, he is called Śakra-Devānam Indra, and is expressed as Shakadeva-indara, Shakadeva, Shaka-indara, Shakati-kan-in, etc., and is called Ten-ta-shakra, Ten-shu-shakra, or Ten-tei, meaning the Emperor of the heavens. He had a deep relationship with Shakyamuni, as he often followed his training in many lives before Shakyamuni was born as Gautama Siddhartha, a prince of the Shakya clan, and appeared in preaching sessions after Shakyamuni became a Buddha. Along with Brahma, he is considered a good deity who protects Buddhism.
