Mosquito coils

Japanese: 蚊取線香 - かとりせんこう

These are mostly spiral-shaped smoke fumigation agents made for the purpose of controlling mosquitoes. The active ingredient is pyrethrin. They are made by adding wood flour, starch, etc. as excipients to pyrethrin powder or synthetic pyrethrin. There are also mosquito repellents in which the active ingredient is soaked in mat-like pulp, and electric mosquito repellents that use weak electric heat to heat the liquid active ingredient, and in 1980 their sales surpassed those of mosquito coils.

カの防除を目的として作られた，多くは渦巻(うずまき)状の薫煙(くんえん)剤。有効成分はピレトリン。ジョチュウギク（除虫菊）粉または合成ピレトリンに賦形剤として木粉，デンプン等を加えてつくる。なおマット状のパルプなどに有効成分をしみこませたものや液状の有効成分を弱い電熱で温める電気蚊取器もあり，1980年には蚊取線香の販売額を追い抜いた。
