Takayasu Mitsui

A businessman from the Meiji and Taisho periods. The fifth son of Mitsui Takafuku. His mother was Tsuo. In February 1868, he was adopted into the Mitsui Muromachi family and inherited the family title. He was one of the promoters when the Mitsui Bank was established, and in 1890 he became vice president of the Kyoto Exposition Company, and in 1899 he became president, working hard to promote industry in Kyoto. In 1891, he toured Europe and the United States with Masuda Takashi to inspect banking operations, and in 1891 he became president of the Mitsui Bank. He promoted Nakagamigawa Hikojiro to vice president and gave him full authority to reform the bank's management. He later became president, a position he held until 1920, and when the Mitsui General Partnership was established in 1909 he became an executive partner. <References>Mitsui Business History, vol. 2, edited by Mitsui Bunko

明治大正期の実業家。三井高福の5男。母は津尾。慶応4(1868)年2月に三井室町家の養子となって家督を相続した。三井銀行設立時には発起人に名を連ねたが,明治13(1890)年に京都博覧会社副頭取,22年に頭取となって京都で勧業に力を尽くした。同20年には益田孝と共に銀行業務視察のために欧米各国を巡遊し,24年には三井銀行総長に就いた。中上川彦次郎を副長に登用して,全権を委ねて銀行の経営改革に当たらせた。その後同社長となって大正9(1920)年までその職にあるとともに,明治42年に三井合名会社が設立されるとその業務執行社員となった。<参考文献>三井文庫編『三井事業史』本編2巻
